Housekeeping Training

Practical skills for working in tourism

Ariadni offers a six-month practical training programme for women who want to gain skills and experience for employment in the tourism sector.

The training is designed as a practical introduction to different areas of hotel and hospitality work. Practical experience is at the centre of the programme.

Learning by doing

The training covers different areas of everyday work in hotels and other tourist businesses, including housekeeping and hotel rooms, kitchen and dishwashing, laundry and textiles, breakfast service, and the organisation of work and working areas.

Participants learn through practical work and exercises. A smaller part of the programme is devoted to theory and topics that support the practical training.

More than practical skills

The training also includes topics that are important for everyday working life.

Participants learn about food, recipes and nutrition, shopping and storage, household and functional areas, textiles and basic financial calculations.

Other topics include first aid, sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The programme also creates space for personal development. Participants are encouraged to recognise their own strengths, develop ideas and gain confidence in what they can do.

A first step towards work

The training provides a practical foundation for entering the tourism sector.

Depending on their interests, abilities and language skills, participants can develop towards different areas of work.

The aim is not to teach everything at once, but to build practical skills step by step and create a realistic starting point for further professional development.

Six months of practical training

The programme runs for six months with 30 hours of training per week.

Practical work forms the main part of the programme, complemented by a limited amount of theory and additional training.

Learning as we go

The Housekeeping Training is a new programme at Ariadni.

We are starting with a clear practical structure, while remaining open to learning from experience. The needs of the participants, their progress and the experience gained during the training will help us develop and improve the programme over time.

Our aim is to build a useful and realistic training programme that responds to the women taking part and to the requirements of the tourism sector.

Developing opportunities together

The Housekeeping Training is part of Ariadni’s work to create practical opportunities for women on Lesbos.

We want participants to leave the programme with new skills, practical experience and greater confidence in their own abilities.
