Excursions

Discovering Lesvos, learning from each other and sharing experiences.

Discovering Lesvos together

Excursions are an important part of our work with women and children.

They give participants the opportunity to discover Lesvos, visit places they may not otherwise have the chance to see and learn more about the island’s history, culture and natural environment.

Learning outside

Our excursions combine learning, discovery and shared experiences.

We visit historical and cultural sites as well as places of natural interest. Being outside, seeing new places and learning directly from the surroundings gives children and adults a different way of experiencing the island.

The excursions are also an opportunity to learn from local culture and everyday life on Lesvos.

Meeting people and making connections

Excursions bring together people from different backgrounds.

For women and children from refugee communities, they provide an opportunity to experience more of life on Lesvos and to meet people outside their usual surroundings.

For local participants and other visitors, they create opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds and share experiences.

We believe that these everyday encounters can help to break down barriers and create a better understanding of one another.

A day together

An excursion is not only about the destination.

We travel together, explore, talk, learn and have time to enjoy the day. When possible, we finish with a shared meal at a local taverna.

Sharing food and conversation is an important part of the experience. It gives everyone time to relax, talk about the day and simply enjoy being together.

Part of our programmes

Excursions are connected to our other activities, particularly Melina Women and EcoKids.

They give participants the opportunity to put learning into a different context, discover new interests and experience Lesvos together.
