Let's Talk

Let’s Talk: Fostering Cross-Cultural Dialogue and Understanding

At Ariadni House, we believe that meaningful conversations can create bridges between cultures, helping refugee women integrate smoothly into European communities. Let’s Talk is a vital component of our mission, designed to encourage dialogue, promote understanding, and support personal agency.

A Space for Connection

Across all of our activities, we bring together people from diverse cultures in a relaxed setting to chat, share, and learn from one another. Over tea, coffee, shared meals, and various activities, we discuss different ways of life, challenges, and experiences. These informal conversations foster understanding, reveal shared values, and celebrate the many similarities that connect us all.

Often, these conversations take place between our European guests and residents of the Mavrovouni camp. For those preparing to continue their journeys, it can be both helpful and comforting to have close, quiet time with someone from the country they hope to move to. In this safe space, our guests are able to ask questions about their new lives and share their stories openly.

For Melina Women , cross-cultural dialogue is woven into the fabric of everyday life. Every morning during breakfast, we facilitate discussions between refugee women and European volunteers or guests, creating a safe space to ask questions, share stories, and learn from each other. These conversations help refugee women become familiar with the cultural norms of their destination countries, making integration smoother and more meaningful.

We also plan specific “Let’s Talk” sessions for Melina Women, including:

  • Language Lessons: With a focus on German, to aid integration and everyday communication.
  • Female Health Workshops: In partnership with MSF Greece, female health professionals lead sessions where our guests can learn about their health, ask questions, and gain confidence in managing their wellbeing.
  • Legal Information: In collaboration with Legal Center Lesvos , we organize presentations and Q&A sessions where participants can gain essential legal knowledge and guidance. Topics include:
      • Questions about the asylum procedure, criminalization, family reunification, and residency in Greece.
      • Understanding the Dublin system and its implications.
      • Your right to travel within the EU as a person with international protection in Greece.
      • Support for reporting racism, systemic issues, and border violence.

These sessions provide a safe and informative environment for women to build their confidence, skills, and understanding of critical topics affecting their lives.

For EcoKids, Let’s Talk is incorporated into our daily educational activities. Children are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, and learn words from different languages. Through classroom discussions, we help them understand life in Europe and cultivate an appreciation for environmental stewardship.

Through both structured sessions and informal exchanges, we create opportunities for refugees and European community members to connect, share stories, and learn from one another. Whether through discussions about life in Europe, language lessons, or workshops, our aim is to help participants navigate their new environments with confidence and a sense of belonging.

We warmly invite you to join the conversation. Whether you are a refugee, volunteer, student, travelling or local guest, your perspective is invaluable. Together, through conversation and shared experiences, we can build a more inclusive and understanding community. At the heart of Let’s Talk is the belief that open dialogue can break down barriers and support successful integration.
